Guest Speaker:  John Sangmeister from Newport Offshore Sailing Association:

John Sangmeister is an entrepreneur and passionate sailor.  He currently serves on The Newport Offshore Sailing Association (NOSA) Board of Directors as Rush Chairman.

John served as Select Director appointed by U.S. Sailing President Cory Sertl to serve a three-year term on the Board of Directors.  John was instrumental in bringing the 2028 Olympic Sailing venue to Long Beach, California.  In 2012, John was named to the America’s Cup Organizing Committee by San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom to serve on the San Francisco America’s Cup Organizing Committee.

In 1987 and again in 1992, John trained and competed with Dennis Conner on board Stars & Stripes.  Transpac is John’s great offshore passion.  The 2021 race marked his 8th and 1/4.  John has competed in three Congressional Cups, and sailed with Jim Kilroy aboard Kialoas III, IV, V & VI.

John is a member of the New York, Alamitos Bay and Long Beach Yacht Clubs Transpac and Royal Ocean Racing Club.  In 2013, he was named Long Beach Yacht Club “Yachtsman of the Year.”

If you’re ever having troubling sleeping and find yourself flipping through the channels, you may see a familiar face.  John was recruited to participate in Francis Ford Coppola’s motion picture “Wind” as an actor, sailor, stuntman and technical advisor.

John received his Bachelor’s and M.B.A. from the University of Southern California.  He lives in Long Beach, California with his wife Sarah and their three sons Jack, Peter and William.
