For 2015, yacht clubs participating in Club of the Year are gathering data as listed in the criteria for submission on the web site. To date there have been races, seminars and yacht club events that qualify for points and each club coordinator is responsible for gathering the data.
On February 15, 2015, Redondo Beach Yacht Club hosted a Club of the Year Seminar for clubs participating in the program. The criteria for points and explanation of the program were provided by COY chair, Director Norie Martin, assisted by Commodore Monty Groutage and S/C Jerry Martin. Eight clubs were represented by either club coordinators or representative of participating clubs. The feedback was that this was a valuable seminar from SCYA and attendees gave positive evaluations.
Clubs participating this year include American Legions Yacht Club, Cabrillo Beach Yacht Club. Dana Point Yacht Club, Dana West Yacht Club, Lake Gregory Yacht Club, Port Royal Yacht Club, Redondo Beach Yacht Club, Seal Beach Yacht Club, Shoreline Yacht Club, Silvergate Yacht Club and South Coast Corinthian Yacht Club.
Submissions are due at the end of the data collection on October 31, 2015, and awards will be presented at the Commodores’ Ball in January 2016. Three categories of awards are given to the clubs with the most points; Senior Club, Regular Club and Associate Club. Those remaining clubs that obtain 80% of available points will receive a Commodore’s Award.
