The start of 89th annual the midwinter regatta is coming up in a little over a week. In most venues the regatta will be held over the weekend of February 10th and 11th or February 17th and 18th. There will be 27 host venues and over 600 skippers participating in over 100 classes. So no matter what type of boat you are interested in racing there is a spot for you somewhere.
This year we are extremely excited about having 2 new venues taking part, Morrow Bay Yacht Club and Nevada Yacht Club. Hollywood Yacht Club is in it 5th year of hosting a predicted log competition after many years of in activity for this competition. San Diego Yacht Club will be hosting the TP52 Class which is generally seen as the ultimate Grand Prix Racer. The RS Terra and Open BIC classes are gaining support around the area and will be racing at Westlake Yacht Club and Mission Bay Yacht Club respectively.
Coronado Yacht Club is hosting a number of fleets with special attention given to the Martin 16 fleet for mobility challenged sailors. For those sailors that want to remain on land during the regattas 3 venues are hosting Radio Controlled boats. Come out and see why this is gaining in popularity at Silver Gate Yacht Club, Lake Gregory Yacht Club and at the Newport Dunes.
The extended weather forecast looks very promising for some great sailboat racing so enter the regatta or just come out to see the festivities and support the racers and our sponsors. For full information visit the SCYAMidwinterRegatta.org website
